The relationship of eczema and stress

Eczema, a chronic inflammatory skin condition, is a global public health oncern not only in children but also in adults.

Eczema may be associated with psychological problems, such as anxiety,  depression, sleep disorders, and personality disorders. Of the many eczema-related causes, psychological stress is thought to be especially important.

When patients with inflammatory skin diseases experience extreme itching, particularly in the setting of stress, it is difficult to refrain from scratching, which then aggravates the eczema and causes more itching. This contributes to an itch-scratch cycle that perpetuates a state of high anxiety, leading to decreased quality of life.
